Just a place to record ideas for future projects .... because the memory just doesn't cut it anymore.

Things I want to try:

• Double V stitch  tried - easy.  Looks good.  Did double strand with fairly thin yarn.

• 6 Day Kids Blanket  Have tried the sampler.  Woohoo I can do it.  Now to decide on colour and style.  Decisions, decisions.

TICK. Did it. Took me ages to memorize the pattern. 

• Misty Morning Poncho Think I'd like this for myself.  What  colours??

Lego Rug

I love the concept of this rug - made the first one 2 years ago - and now I've just finished the fifth one, and I have changed the way I do things.  Mostly because I'm really bad a sewing the blocks together, and I don't particularly like the ridge that is created when blocks are crocheted together.

The pattern I've come up with is based on others I've viewed online.  But this is what worked best for me.

The Pattern

Chain 17
R1.  DC into second chain from the hook.  DC to the end (16 Stitches) Turn
R2.  Chain 3 (counts as 1 TR throughout) TR to the end (16 stitches) Turn
R3.  Chain 3 TR TR Popcorn, TR TR Popcorn, TR TR Popcorn, TR TR Popcorn, TR TR TR  Turn
R4.  Repeat R2
R5.  Repeat R3
R6.  Repeat R2
R7.  Repeat R1

This gives a block of 7 rows - with 2 popcorn rows (4 bumps in each row)

Popcorn Stitch (There are many ways to do this stitch - this seems to give a decent bubble on one side and a flat surface on the back).  See links above
5 TR into one stitch
Take the hook from the working loop
Put hook into the 2 loops of the first TR
Catch the loose working loop and pull it through the loop from TR1 on your hook 

Originally, I completed each brick with an edge of Half Trebles and then stitched the blocks together. 

 

This most recent rug is worked in columns of coloured blocks.  So after completing the 7 row block, change colour to the joining colour and continue....

R8.  Change colour.  Chain 2.  (counts and one stitch) Half Treble across the row (16 stitches).  Change Colour.  Turn

R9.  (Same as R1....) Ch 1 DC into each stitch across row  (16 stitches)
and so on. 

I joined the columns with DC continuous join method.  It's a little awkward, but I still prefer it to sewing blocks together.  Lots of ends to sew in!!!

Finished of with 2 rows of Half Trebles around the border. 

I'm addicted

In the beginning - I must have learnt to crochet as a child, although it's not a vivid memory.  I do remember my mother always knitting or crocheting, but it's not something I made time for..... until just over 2 years ago when I realised if I wanted my grandson to have a crocheted rug as my kids had, then I would have to do it. 

Now I'm addicted!!!  And I've become a yarn hoarder too.  Hard to believe after I gave away all my mum's needles and bags of yarn when she passed away.  She's be loving this stage of my life!  Thanks Mum
